This Lincoln Cent caught my eye. It's certainly not rare, but on both the left and the right of the bust, certain letters were affected, and on the right two of the letters are half gone with no other marks, even under a stereo microscope. Any ideas?

Looks like a strike through grease to me.
If so, very common (at least, common enough to have no extra value).

That coin was damaged by a coin rolling machine at some point years ago. I damaged the lower part of the letters around the edge of the coin. Still Lookin

It was probably the result of a vending machine/counting counting/coin wrapping machine that damaged those devices:

These were used in the 40's through late 60's as gumball, candy and peanuts during that time. Does not increase the value of the coin, but as damage it reduces the value of the coin.
