I'm sure this is PMD but for the life of me I can't figure out what might have caused this. Any ideas?

Rest in Peace

PMD. The coin was partially smashed. One clue is the full rim at the unsmashed area showing it was originally struck in the collar die.

Is this a single cent? How much does it weigh?

Thank you all for your replies. As stated in the OP I was quite sure this was PMD, was really looking for some ideas on what event might have caused the damage to the coin. Note how the coin shows four different shelves, each being circular in shape. The first shelf being the well struck portion of the coin, the second and third shelves still show some detail, IB in liberty, The curvature of the back of Lincolns head as well as some hair detail. I am just trying to get a grasp on what might have happened to cause this sort of damage. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

Here is a slightly better pic of the obverse.

Possible: They might have used a large washer with a large hole in it and squashed it in a vise a number of times. Why? You got me.
