Hello. This coin I found in a box in a wall about 20 years ago. There were several other Australian and New Zealand coins, most of them were dated 1919. I've tried to research it's value, but it appears this could be the most counterfeited and multiple variations coin I have ever encountered. I dont doubt its authenticity at all, but please give me your opinions. It is in great condition, what is it's value? TIA.

I got your note and moved this to the main World Coin forum for a hopefully wider audience.

Weight is correct for a Fatman coin, but I see no clear fake signs.

I don't offer opinions or see fakes everyplace. I'd only say that I have a good number of genuine and fake Fatman dollars and you'd be hard pressed to see any signs of being fake at all by looking at some of them.

I think the signs look good. Nothing obvious that show that this is a fake.

If this is genuine which I believe it is, it should be around the 80 - 100 dollar mark.

Hello, I also ran into one of those "Fat Man Dollars" recently. Weighted correclty, looked correct. However: Ping test and specific gravity revealed the thruth: junk fake. Check both, the sound and specific garvity.

I like the SwissEagle coin because it's probably true about the looks and weight. But the real trouble with the SwissEagle coin is that it is a 6 character Fatman dollar, but it's not year 3. That coin is year 5 which cannot be true so the legend itself points to a fake. It's natural that non-silver will be found. There is no year 5 on a Fatman dollar. There is only a year 3 in the 6 character version. The only years in the 7 character version are years 8, 9 and 10.
I will say one thing more about the OP coin image that I noticed but did not comment on at the time. And that is the three somewhat triangular marks near the mouth. I've seen dozens of these same marks among fake coins. Not sure what causes them. I thought maybe a tool mark on a hot molded coin- but that's only a guess. Anyway, when I see these same marks on fakes from China it's always worth taking a closer look. The density test usually reveals it is not coin silver.
