Hello everybody, I am a new member joining in from Switzerland. Some months ago, I revived my childhood hobby of collecting silver coins. This happened as a "collateral" from shifting a share of my assets to physical silver and gold. During the last couple of months, I already garnered quite a collection, mostly from ebay and a similar local online auction platform. Key areas of interest are European coins: Germany 1871-1918, Imperial Austria, Latin coin union. I also came across quite some nice deals with US coins, and am also becoming increasingly interested in middle and Southern American coins. You would wonder, how many US coins are actually stacked in Swiss private households :-) I am increasingly interest in verification technologies to spot fakes. To date, however, I must state that the vast majority of my purchases have turned out to be real pieces. I may post in coin community from time to time with questions regarding US coins or in order to share other pieces of interest. Looking forward to vived discussion, Rainer

from England! I am a big fan of the Swiss 10 and 20 rappen that have had the same design since 1979 - on a visit to Montreux in 1981 I got an 1897 20r in change!

Welcome from Germany :)
I also collect Swiss coins from 1850 onwards but also have some issues of different cantons. I have also worked in the Wallis for a couple of months and still like to visit Switzerland. Many beautiful places over there ;)

Welcome to CCF swisseagle. I think that you'll find lots to talk about with your US coins as well as some of your Austrian and German coins. By the way, earlier this summer I was in Grindelwald doing a little hiking--can't beat those views of the Eiger and Jungfrau!

Welcome aboard. If you like the Central and South American coins, ARcoins has a great recommendation with his Balboa. That is a beautiful coin and a must have in any world silver type collection. Another of my favorites from the same time period and with equally stunning eye appeal is the Cuauhtemoc 5 Peso coin from 1947 and 1948 from Mexico. Biggest circulating silver coin ever issued in the new world and that eagle with the snake in its mouth seems to be higher relief than other coins with that design. Slightly bigger than the Morgan dollar even. Big fan of the Swiss too. From your nation's love of hard money as one of the last hold outs with circulating silver to belief in the right to self defense, you guys are a great example for the rest of the world.

Hi, thank you very much for the warm welcome. It is interesting to read, how many are aware of the beauty of the Swiss currency, one of the very few that has not had a cut since 1849. Until today, I ALWAYS check my pocket change for old coins. The oldest one was change for a beer in a bar, 10 Rappen dated 1885. I keep all coins from before 1945. However, as a native German I started out with imperial German and Austrian coins pre 1918, moved from there to the Latin coin union and imperial Russia and to the Americas. Actually, in fact, first was America. I got into coin collecting again when I purchased an entire US coin collection below bullion value from a private source. Regarding the Balboa: I recently bought my first half balboa. However, my absolute favorite from South America is the Mexican PESO issued from 1920 to 1945. My European favorites are: the imperial German 3 Mark coins from Prussia, particularly the regular Wilhelm II issues and the commemorative issue of the liberation wars centennial dated 1913. I also love Austrian 1 and 2 Crowns or Russian Kopeks. I am also amazed by the top quality of the WWI era French 1 and 2 France Semeuse coins one can buy here in Switzerland. Please see below some of my favorites. I also included my favorite Kennedy Halfs. I stack those coins regularly, because they are beautiful and, until recently, one could acquire them regularly at bullion value. Enjoy :-)
