I know nothing about this grading company. Being an SBA collector, I couldn't pass this up for a whopping $2.25 at the LCS. The coin is a beauty though.....

They're a basement grader from my understanding...
And you're right. Still a pretty coin nonetheless.

Nick, Yup, you're correct. Not reputable at all....been reading up on them through searches on the forum. Still couldn't pass on it for the eye appeal and price!

Indeed! Haha. I have a fair amount of SBA $s myself, and that's one of the better ones that I have seen.

I have a full slabbed set, with all major varieties, of the SBAs, but still buy them every time I see them! Bought a small stack last week at the LCS for about $3/coin. All graded 68 and higher by PCGS & NGC :)

You underpaid for a good looking proof. The container is irrelevant.

Doesn't hurt having a example of a basement slab.
They are part of the hobby too.
Nice looking coin at a good price ....

True, great coin at a great price. But NNC is a junk grader, anyway.

Buy the coin, not the slab.
Looks like you got a nice proof at a great price!

As a grading company NNC is a pile of stinking dog poo. Run by a single individual in, IIRC, Florida. Who is notorious for buying details graded coins and reslabbing them 'clean' and several grades higher.
There obviously are SOME OK coins in NNC slabs - even a blind squirrel occasionally finds a nut. Congrats on your nut.

Good coin, unfortunately the slab means nothing. NNC is a basement company run by ebay user centsles. His claim to fame is his horrible tendency to sell problem coins in his own problem free NNC slabs. Once he tried selling a 1916-D Mercury dime that would make MS60 details on a good day as MS64, and naturally bidiots ran with it, and it went up to at least $11,000. Unfortunately, ebay lets these conmen get away with their schemes because they provide massive chunks of money for ebay. Speaking of the coin, it actually looks like it would grade PF69 UC. If this were my coin, I'd take it out of the NNC holder (which would probably be very easy to do, since most of these bottom-feeder "services" don't even have sonically sealed holders) and send it in to one of the real TPGs. If this got a 70, it would probably make headlines here as the first basement graded 70 coin to actually get a 70 from a legit TPG.

At least the guy properly attributed it as Type 1!

I want to be clear. I know NNC is a junk grader. Having one in your collection would be like having counterfeit coins, to use as example of a bad grader. I imagine somewhere there is a collector that might have a set that would be the same coin each in a different TPGholder. For example a 1921 Morgan MS64 one in a PCGS, one in a NGC, one in ANACS ....ETC. And yes ...one in a NNC. Or in the OPs case .. he might be able to do that with SBA.

GR58, I knew what you meant. No need to explain! In the SBA collection, I have PCGS, Anacs and NGC! Think I'll keep it in the NNC holder just for novelty sake.

I seem to remember another post about these "NNC" coins. They all came from one particular ebay seller if I recall correctly.

I think it's funny that this idiot has a whole bunch of his coins on seizedpropertyauctions.com. Which pretends to be a police auction... Which it really isn't! If you pay attention you'll notice all the shipping and handling fees seem to cover what it would actually be worth. For example, this site will have a postage stamp winning bid at $0.99 that a collector may want; but the shipping and handling is $40! :-) Heaven help you if there's a bidding war before people notice the shipping and handling. He even had a three-legged Buffalo nickel which definitely look like it was altered. He even told how to spot a altered coin at the bottom of the page! I can't find that three-legged Buffalo anymore, you'll get a kick out of his grading of this coin... http://www.seizedpropertyauctions.c...20-CENT-COIN
