Self-adhesive tape is sometimes seen to patch up banknotes. But for coins?

Affixing-Coins-Using-Tape?

Affixing-Coins-Using-Tape?

Was that common in the past?
Was it before they had albums?

And finally, what did they stick the coins to back then (whenever that was)?

i know when I was a little boy in the 1960's, in my birthday cards I used to get silver dollars that were taped inside the card.
Rest in Peace

I have seen tape used to hold coins in those whitman coin folders.

Same here as for silverwolf. Just that it wasn't in the 1960s for me and that it wasn't silver coins I got. But it was money and it was taped inside the card!

(and no, none of these coins was collectible).

Used to be just common practice to tape coins to a card for a present.

Fun fact : Do not put a rubber band to hold together a bunch of 2x2s with coins in them. The rubber chemicals will go right through the Mylar like it wasn't there and tone the coins in a band right where the contact was.

Probably not much "fun" for the owner of such coins... And while I'm not a fan of rubber bands, as they tend to either snap or stick to the nearest surface if left alone for some time, I wouldn't have thought that might happen. Thanks, Andrew99!

Just a few months ago I traded a few CC euro coins with a guy from France. He sent me coins taped to a cardboard. They were circulated CC's sure, but still. I told him that this is not the way to do it, and he seemed to understand.

My great aunt who lived in USA until her death last year (Pennsylvania) used to sent my mother US coins taped to a cardboard as souvenirs.

That reminds me somebody did bring coins from San Marino that were affixed to a card, although I don't remember whether they were stuck using tape or glue... They were sold that way, in the 1990s at least.
