ebay sent me this in an advertisement email as most sought and most bought. It bad enough having the bottom feeders selling the seated coin rolls on ebay, but when ebay sends out an advertisement to its customers it almost legitimizes the seated coin roll practice. I do not understand how anyone can bid thousands or dollars on unknown coins. I guess the seller makes up the roll after the known sales amount, so he can keep his customer's happy with some type of value for the money spent. See link below: 152173957609

Oh jeez. Paper rolls didn't even exist (or else were very rare) in the 1800s, and no collector would stack a BU CC Morgan like they would junk silver. The whole thing smells rotten.

I reviewed the listing and it seems within ebay policy. The seller makes no statements whatsoever about what dates or condition of coins MIGHT be in the roll except "all mintmarks and dates are possible". They make no claims that the coins were actually rolled at any particular year in history, or even that they were actually rolled in Carson City. They provide numerous in-focus photos. The most recent (that's all I checked) feedback comments on these rolls previously sold are positive, and the seller has 100% positive feedback. Who knows, the buyers may not open these rolls and all they have to go on are the end coins. If someone is deceived by this listing, then it is only in their imagination. After all, those are genuine CC mint Morgan dollars, aren't they?

Quote: "This is a burner account and once my money clears, I'm outta here!" This is not a drive-by seller. It would make no sense for them to ruin a good account like this. These rolls always go for a very high premium. http://www.ebay.com/itm/20-SILVER-D...047675.l2557same seller sold this one and got an as advertised feedback on it. Heck- I wish I could find out what is in those, but I cant afford it.

The only things really questionable are one no toning even after all these years exposed to the paper, and two paper rolls did not become commonplace until some time in the 19teens (I think the first patent is in the latter part of the first decade of the 20th century). The State Bank and Trust Co Carson City, Nevada closed down in 1907.

"all these years" "two paper rolls did not become commonplace until some time in the 19teens"
The seller makes no claim that the rolls were rolled during any particular year, or even by the bank listed on the roll. You are making assumptions.
They only say that they have "held up well". There is no "back story" about how they were found in an abandoned house's walls, belonged to a great-great grandfather who put them in a safe deposit bank in the 1920s, etc. There is no claim that they are an OBW roll.
Since they are not toned, one might conclude they have not been wrapped in these rollers for years and years.

Nicely put together roll, with dipped end coins. Ignorance is bliss. Seller will continue to enjoy 100% positive feedback due to the uneducated nature of their customers, who think these rolls are awesome.

There is a business opportunity here for someone. I should figure out how to make some nice paper rolls.

It appears that the seller has expanded his business as the Carson City Saving half-roll is now on auction at Heritage in Lot # 5214 and the current bid is $2200 as noted below:
1880-CC Half-Roll of Silver Dollars From the Carson City Savings Bank
Half-Roll of 1880-CC $1 Dollars Uncertified. This is a fascinating lot: A half-roll (10 coins) of 1880-CC dollars. The dollars are wrapped in the original bank paper and has the imprint of the Carson City Savings Bank. It appears that the upper portion of an eagle is below the bank's name, above is $10. The top coin (obverse showing) is brilliant except for peripheral color, while the bottom coin (reverse showing) displays rich red and blue toning. The paper is brown, either from handling over 136 years or perhaps this is its original brown color. We hesitate to call this a one-of-a-kind item because you never know what will surface, but we can say this is definitely the first item like this we have seen.(Registry values: P4, N4)

I can't believe the heritage morgan experts cleared this for sale. I'll have to take a look at it in Anaheim. That reverse toner is pathetic
