I won lot 95 at Golding Young & Mawer in the UK today, photos attached.

Having spoken to them on the phone post win, I informed them that I would drive the 90 miles to pick the coins up as I am on holiday. Upon arrival I was asked to pay by card at the window and then directed to the live sale still going on. I presented my receipt and the porter started to look for my group of coins. The porter had no idea where my lot was but eventually found it in an open box on a shelf. I was required to sign for the coins prior to inspection which I did. Right, now we get the 'punch-line'...............every single coin of value..........all the Victorian, all the florins and the Leopold II ROI were all conspicuous by their absence..............yes, all stolen from inside the auction house itself. The auctioneer was far more clued up than the manager and said to me as we looked at the PC..............lots of coins are missing! If an auction house has the most pathetic security where they just leave such coins in an open box on a shelf I guess this sort of thing will happen. Finally, all that was left for me was junk. Refund and £25 petrol money received............any Brits reading or overseas buyers I suggest avoid.....imagine if I did not driven there and they sent it in the post and then they would be saying all the coins were there and I was the dishonest one. Utterly clueless avoid this auction house!

That stinks. Glad you at least got your money back (plus fuel reimbursement). Still, I'd be pretty angry.

Thanks Marbury. I think it is important to make public any business that is not acceptable. When I am inclined to let lesser offenses pass because it wasn't really that expensive, I reconsider, knowing that it only encourages bad behavior and to the next person, such a loss may seem like a fortune.
Rest in Peace

Sorry that happened. At least they did what they could to make it right. But you're absolutely right -- what if it had been shipped?

Thanks for posting the story.
