Hello! I found this 1858 Canadian 1 cent in my collection of world coins and I wanted to get your enlightened opinions on the condition. I know this is a good year, so I was happy to find it. Also, does the verdigris kill the value? I know one forum member had luck (carefully) cleaning an 1891 cent by boiling it with water, vinegar and salt, followed by a very light brushing with a very soft toothbrush. I'm pretty sure I would screw it up, but I might willing to first give it a try on some lower value coins if the verdigris is killing the value (and the coin itself). Thank you for your thoughts!

Oops, I accidentally posted this to the wrong section! Can someone move it to the Canadian grading category?

In terms of wear, perhaps a VF, maybe more. the hair has quite a lot of detail. Of course a grading company would give it a details grade. I would certainly not try to remove the verdigris on this, although I admit I am curious as to the effect the process would have. We need to remember that the verdigris contains copper-meaning that the surface has already been damaged to some extent.

Very nice details in the braid around the ear: Ef-40

Too bad for the verdigris; be careful if you try and remove it

Google verdicare or verdigone.
Good stuff.
