*** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***Found it looking for 1984 and 1997 two ear Lincolns.... I did some research and found that in 1983 the cent went a revision change and it was to correct the wording on the reverse side so no letters are touching. Then I read that there are doubled die 1983 pennies with type 2 reverse that are worth $$ so I snagged 102 good 1983 pennies, 81 good 1984's for reviewing for 2 ears,,and 64 good 1997 pennies to review for doubled ears aswell all from my stockpile....It took 6 good hours dumping out the 5 gallon waterjug and going through them to find what I have so far....LOL Anyways...Id like to hear the thoughts of the more trained eye...... Did I find one and is it worth all the hype?......I certainly hope so....I lost alot of sleep.....LOL

I'm pretty sure the answer is that these aren't the the types of coins you are describing, but I'm so new to this that I can't really answer questions yet so we will learn from the more knowledgeable people together.
I would like to say, I'm pretty sure every single member on here has done what you did with regards to an old jar of pennies. I know I sure have, and when I was done, I went to my bank and bought my first $25 box of pennies.
Those hours were't waisted, and I bet we've all lost sleep once or twice on a coin we got excited we had found.
Good Luck Mr. Sandler

Im usually pretty thorough when it comes to comparing things according to description.... It clearly states the 1983 cent on the reverse side went a revision change....This was called type 2..The letters in the type 2 reverse image were reworked so no lettering touched.. The change can be seen clearly by the naked eye according to the article I read... They said there was doubled die errors made in the new updated batch where the date shows doubling. My piece clearly has a doubled date....The letters dont touch on back and the seperated letters can be seen clearly by the naked eye.... I dont feel like I'm missing anything and now stand on the deduction that I do In fact have a 1983 and a 1983D doubled die type 2 reverse penny but as from what I see on the internet arent as rare as I thought.....LOL Some of mine however go the extra step in errors that arent explained like the E being almost gone and the S T in STATES are half flattened with no obvious signs it could be PMD cause I have another thats almost 100% identical to it and its not a 1983D its a regular 1983... How can two almost identical errors turn out from two different mints is what I want to know now?

After looking through countless threads my verdict has been changed.....
Im now pretty sure I'm looking at a worn die issue on these coins.....
I do have a coin that exhibits doubling away from the rimedge so what I need to know now is........
What type of error is it when the doubling is opposite of the rimedge? Is that a Doubled die?
Can anyone give any insight?

The flattened ST is most likely from a grease filled of those portions of the letters.

There are various forms of MDO; all are worthless. Die Deterioration does tend to flow toward the rim, Strike Doubling can be in any direction. They reduce the size of the original device. You can usually compare with another coin of the same year to see what the normal device size is. On the other hand, a Doubled Die increases the size of the device. Worthless doubling robs the device of some of it's size. Doubled Dies add to it.

I think we need larger images to see what is there.

I don't follow the moderns too closely but was there a reverse hub change in 1983? I don't recall hearing about it.

He mentioned doubled die and variety 2, so I'm wondering if he means 1983P-1DR-002 the DDR? So until we see closer images, it is just a guess right now?
