There were some magical sellers pop-up with 10's upon 10's of thousands of listings each pop up during the boycott, with zero feedback. You couldn't bid on any of them. Try to bid and you get...

Transaction Blocked
Cannot bid on this kind of item.

They were just there, with no starting or ending date listed... making the auctions counts go up. Boycott ends and the sellers are Naru'd.

Interesting to say the least.

Perhaps you want to read through 31 pages of commentary on this.. ahem... phenomenon.

That is a very interesting forum thread, scubu, thanks for the link!

Odd, though, isn't it?

I am very interested in finding out what Forbes thinks of this. They've been following the ebay situation pretty closely. This could kill ebay stock. I wouldn't be surprised if maybe there were a few lawsuits involved also if this proves to be true.

Well, I tried to link to the 31 pages of commentary. Looks like the powers that be at ebay decided to remove it.

They sure did. Many more of these phantom sellers were found, some with 50K plus of these phantom listings.

A lot of these zero feedback sellers even had a powerseller logo.

Here's one of the phantom sellers. Keep in mind that this view only shows 10,000 items max. According to the ebay thread this ID had almost 60K listings. None of which you could bid on.

Every single listing in that list is now removed. What's more... if you click on the feedback score, they are NARU'd and it says buy.com for an ID. The ebay board found hundreds of thousands of these phantom listings before the thread was removed.

I must confess, I am a boycotter of ebay but out of respect for this forum, I will not bash the venue. I am very much into watching what is going on with the strike and boycott.
This was discovered and at first ebay said it was a "test" then it was labeled a "bug".
Then they blamed it on another site somehow getting their listings posted on ebay from Shopping.com

seller sdc_prod_434012 AKA SpectrumSuperStore is a prime example of this.
So heres a screenshot of how many this ZERO feedback seller had up on ebay.
There were many other phantom sellers like this and it made the auction listing total spike on medved auction count.
A place where many ebay boycotters used to watch for evidence of effectiveness from less sellers listing. see http://medved.net/cgi-bin/cal.exe?EIND
