Just received this coin and had to do a little restoration which revealed a beautify coin IMO.

It is a AE Tetradrachm of the Indo-Scythian King Aspavarma who ruled a region in Bajaur Northern Pakistan from 15-45 AD. Aspavarma was a commander in Azes army in Taxila.

The coin depicts King Azes on Horse back which is traditional for this type. Aspavarma pays tribute to Azes by placing the Greek legend on the obverse: BASILEOS BASILEON MEGALOY AZOY ("The great King of Kings Azes"). On the reverse is Pallus stainding right with the Kharosthi legend: INDRAVARMA PUTRASA ASPAVARMA STRATEGASE JAYATASA ("Son of Indravarma, Aspavarma Victorious Strategos") Strategos means commander.

Aspavarma was from the Apraca Rajas.

Excellent coin and terrific cleaning job there, Ron. What steps did you take...long soak and picking?

I still feel like you should consider retiring the Antoninus Pius avatar (much as I like it) in favor of something that reflects your recent collecting tendencies.

Congrats on another nice pick-up.

Thanks Bob, just a little picking and rubbing with the fingers. I still can't make up my mind what I want to chance it too.

Great job Ron! Almost looks like you changed it from copper to silver.

I'm going to go off base here a bit and spout off. There are several of us that go through a lot of time and effort to research the coins that we post so that we can further the hobby of ancient coin collecting, spark interest and maybe show coins that others haven't seen before. But it gets a bit frustrating when we do all the work and the only comments we get are from those same people that also do all the work. Don't get me wrong we are more than happy to help people that want to learn and go as far as trying to find the information on their own, of which there is tons avail able on the web and I the sticky section here.
What really sticks in my craw are the folks that come here and want us to ID every ancient coin that they come across and do no research on their own. I've had people tell me that they are too lazy to do their own research and would rather we do it for them. That doesn't cut it with me, you need to be willing to do some work on your own. Also we are collectors and not appraisers, so asking for value 9 times out of 10 you will not get and answer. Finally contribute to the discussion, comment on other threads and be willing to give your opinion and join in. OK rant off.

Perhaps one part of the solution is to make it clear that we can provide assistance with identification but not pricing? I know that in my zeal to be helpful, I've given my thoughts on price a couple times, but I would be quite happy to keep that part of my assessment to myself moving forward.
