Some of you have viewed on the national news the flash flood devastation last Saturday in my hometown ... Ellicott City, MD

My family and house are fine ... we live 1 mile away from the historic downtown area ... and while we experienced all the rain ... we had no damage other than my internet service being down until yesterday.

I tell you honestly ... the rain intensity is best described as a giant dumping a swimming pool over my house ... and that went on for well over an hour.

I lost track when the power went out ... and my internet service box fried.

All that water over a large area rolled down the hills into downtown ... and the subsequent damage and loss of two lives is a very big impact to my hometown.

We have several friends with business shops downtown ... and feel very much for them.

For now ... the County officials have the historic downtown district closed ... even the homeowners can not enter.

Someday there will be a call for volunteer help ... I'll be first in line to do what I can to help.

Pleased to be back on-line with the CCF ... I need to go check GTP as jbuck can't cut any slack for late guesses.

Best - David

Yes...good to hear that you are fine. I think we will all experience an epic rain event in our lifetime. It truly is amazing how powerful and destructive all that water can be.

All the best to your friends in town. I hope that they can recover in shortish order.

Glad you made it through all right.

I saw the flooding on the news and it looked terrifying.

I'm glad y'all are okay David! Ellicott City is a nice town with a splendid historical centre. I hope restoration efforts commence soon and are successful! And my prayers go out to those who lost loved ones.

I noticed that Wikipedia has already added this to their article about the town:

Quote:
On July 30, 2016, a storm dropped six inches of rain in two hours on the city. The resulting flash flood caused severe damage in historic Ellicott City, especially along Main Street. Many homes, roads, businesses, sidewalks, and more were destroyed by the flooding, including the city's landmark clock. A state of emergency was declared, and two people died as a result of the flooding.
