I found this in a roll, is there any way to tell if the copper was never there or if it was and somehow removed?

It looks to me as if there is some residual copper on the coin, which would suggest that it was removed.

Even if it was struck without the copper it's worthless because of the damage.

I call these "Mall Pond Pennies", (Cents) The coin was probably under water and made its way into a roll or circulation after having been in a water fountain at the mall. I've seen thousands of these. They react to the chemicals in the water used to keep the water clean.

It is accelerated corrosion.

Thanks,
Bill
