I found this in a roll last night. What do you think, damage or lamination?
My first thought was damage but the way the date sinks into the hole makes me think otherwise. The reverse looks normal.

I would guess lamination, but I am not an expert in that area. It doesn't look like a normal scrape to me. I would think that if something hit it hard enough to do that damage on the obverse, it would cause some sort of distortion on the reverse.

Can't tell whether it's struck through something or a lamination, but it's definitely not damage.

Far left of the hole looks like it can peel away from the coin giving the impression of lamination. Canyou can get a close up shot of that spot?

It appears more to me as a strike through error would appear. The close-up of the area in question does not have the rough appearance that you would expect to see with a lamination error.

Although distorted, the metal still flowed into that space. It does not look as though metal was peeled from that spot.

Thanks,
Bill
