Here is an 1881 Shield nickel. My photography skills are proably not up to this coin's true look, but you can take a shot at grading it.

I see no reason it's not MS67 so that's my guess.

Again, why the color?
Maybe I have not seen one like this but, I do have a few Shield nickels. Not a higher grade as yours.

I'll say at least 66, with a good shot at 67. I can't really see any problems.

I think the coin is a proof. Details look very sharp and the fields seem to have a mirror-like surface. I'll guess PR-65 but it could be higher. I find proofs to be tough to grade from static photos because hairlines are sometimes only visible when the direction of light is just right.

At a first glance, I thought it was a proof, but now with Bill's hint, I'm sure of it.

My first thought it looked like a proof. No expert on the series so I'll say pf67 now

I thought proof after I said MS 65, Ill change my guess to PF 66.

I immediately thought proof as soon as I saw it. The Byron Reed collection also has a 1881 proof Shield nickel in a similar grade with almost a cartwheel luster like yours.
