Based on the year of the coin, would you consider these valid No-FG varieties of the Kennedy half?

Also, I've seen these book listed at around $3 - $5, but I've recently seen a few being auctioned on ebay for around $30 in a similar grade. Thoughts on actual market pricing?

That link did not work for me. As for No FG halves, I believe they any year could have this variety because it was caused by die polishing. The dies that minted these coins without the initials were polished to much in that area, erasing the initials. Some have very weak initials so you have to look carefully , a picture can sometimes hide the remnants that may keep it from being a No "FG" and I don't think the weak ones carry a premium.

Your link worked for me. None of them would qualify as no FG. All have remnents of initials.

I agree, there are initials there although weak. The second coin shows extreme remnants of die polishing. So, these are not considered No FG coins.

Thanks,
Bill

The FG could also be affected by a strike though grease also. So I don't think the hub was made without the FG as the master die would have it as part of the design. It's not added to the dies like pre-1990 mint marks were.

As far as a variety, it would have to be missing the FG from the first coin to be a variety. If most were polished/removed in later die states, it would just be a damaged die and not a variety. If it was hubbed with the FG, then it would be a regular die with damage added to it later.

I believe this is a no-FG variety Kennedy half. I found this searching Kennedy half dollars last week and just now found the time to photograph them.

While searching through a box yesterday I came across a 1983P in VF condition that has faint fg markings. The bottom of the letters are nearly gone but viewable under 10X. It gives the impression that the polishing of the die created the tapered effect of the lettering.

I found a 1982p without FG in uncirculated condition. There are out there.
