I loaded a app to my new iPad, and thought I would try taking a picture and posting it. Put two LED lights on coin. Took picture. Cropped it with app " photo editor" then used app to lower the brightness a little. Any opinions or suggestions?

It might be good to try first on a coin with lower relief. I'd probably have to do stacking to get an acceptable picture of a coin like this one.
Does the phone allow for manual aperture control, and manual focusing? Can some app do focus stacking for you, by controlling the autofocus?
Was this shot hand-held? Is there a good way to support the phone while taking macro pics?

Tried propping the iPad up. Did not really capture the coin as it looks in hand

The background is pretty sharp, but coin is a little fuzzy, so it looks like the camera is focusing on the background. Somehow you need to make sure the focus is on the coin.

GR58, I also have an IPad. I think we are the only two here at CCF that will admit it. LOL What is the App? Good luck and thanks for sharing

PS Express is an excellent FREE photo editor for IPAD. Been using it for four months and love it. There is an upgrade that you have to sign up for but it is free as well. All of our latest listings on ebay are with my IPAD air and am not ashamed to say it. Makes listing way quicker with acceptable pix.

Rmpsrmps ...... I will have to see if I can play with the focus ... Or maybe the background.
-------------------------- Bpoc1 I think it is called "photo editor" I search Apps store .. I think that was the first one that came up.
------------------------- pacificoin I will have to check that app out.
--------------------------
I did have to use CCF program to resize the last picture.
--------------- Some background ... I do have a Canon 5Ti and Canon 100mm macro. And I still am not good at getting quality pictures.
I think it is my lighting

Went to PS Express. This app seemed a lot easier, after playing with it like a "Dummy 100." Still in "What the heck and what does this symbol mean and do mode."

I did figure out how to turn on flash, but that picture was not very good for this coin.
Not seeing any way to change focus option.
And still had to use CCF program to get the size below 300kb

But I do have one of these coins in my collection. ----------------------------- I am thinking the iPad is not picking up the details for a really good picture.

how close is the iPad to the coin?
I get similar results from my iPhone 4s (great for coin pics) if I am too close. for the phone seems like 5" or so is the sweet spot.
try pulling back a little.
also, you might want to try propping the coin up on a cork (or similar soft object) so that the camera focuses on the coin surface instead of the background. try a smooth non reflective background as well, your current background has so much texture that it might be fooling the camera's focus (as well as the white balance as there is a lot of light reflection).
