When researching coin values I have noticed many CCF members suggest searching for similar coins that previously sold on ebay. For the life of me I can't figure out how to perform such a search. Any help would be much appreciated.

I used to have the same problem.

Just go to the top right corner of the ebay home page (where it has the search button) and click on "advanced" to the right of that. You can enter specific information and search for sold listings.

Pick out the coin and search --- then in upper right corner click on "Advanced Search". This will take you to a whole new page where you can refine your search terms if you like and as you scroll down you will see "Sold"-- select that option. You will get another page of similar or identical items that were recently sold.

Hope that helps.

If I recall correctly, you have to be logged in to see them. Guest browsers cannot choose advanced options.

Well, it may have been a thing at one time, but no longer.

I just checked from a spare machine (never logged into ebay ever) and I could check off the advanced options just fine, including completed listings.

This is correct if you search on a PC. If you use the mobile app you have to do the search you want, then click on "filter", "show more", "sold items"

Whichever way you do it the prices should show up in green. That is how I catch it if I thought I did a sold search but see black prices. You can sort your search in several ways and refine further as needed.

If you're looking for US coins, each coin facts page here has direct links to both ebay and Heritage closed listings. Also, yes, you must be logged in.

Example: 1878 CC Morgan Dollar
