Alrighty guys/gals its my vacation time from now until Sept 8th and Ive been pretty busy studying aswell as new coinroll perusing....

Now I have a question about the 2016 US Mint Proof set sold by the US Mint for $31.95 and the Silver proofsets for $51.95 as I was thinking about purchasing some proofsets..

I was reading the description as to how the hand burnished coin blanks are hand loaded into presses and pressed multiple times til the background is super shiney and the portrait aswell as the lettering is dull finish..

Questions about the 2016 US Mint Proof sets are:

Are each coin struck for the Proof sets:

a: manufactured to the highest standards as they claim?

b: checked against errors by machine operators or quality control to ensure each proof set is of the highest quality?

c: that contain errors like rim Cuds,,marred eye and nostril errors aswell as die cracks rejected and destroyed or are they accepted and put into proof sets and sold?

d: worth more and raise the proof sets value if errors like Cud errors,,doubling and die cracks are present on more than one coin in the set or do the errors diminish the proof sets value?

Im very interested in what the valued members of this community have to say about this as I'm doing research against a very expensive order I'm planning to put through ASAP.

Thanks in advance..

YMMV.

Or more likely, YM Will V.

Keep in mind that the proof sets (yes, the silver ones too) are mass produced. Think about it and don't be surprised when the dozen or so employees checking the sets that come off the line miss an scratch or two of the hundreds of thousands of sets produced.

Personally, I'd prefer to buy direct from the mint than risk getting a reject set from ebay.

If you do a forum search on mint sets you should get your answer. With the complaints found in posts regarding toning, coin quality, etc. your chances of finding an error coin in a mint set are not unheard of. What your luck would be in finding an error remains to be seen.

Well...Im looking for the opinions of the members of this forum and value the opinions of those members that contribute in a helpful way...

I have done research thats why I'm asking because when I researched coinroll hunting I heard it can be very profittable and saw the posts about people finding rare and elusive gems and making real $$ off of it other than powerselling on ebay...

Ive found some quite interesting and irregular stuff minted from the US mint and yet none is as valuable as the research suggests yet most is rare and one of a kind...

Now everyone says it needs to be found in uncirculated stuff....So I get uncirculated pennies and dimes from my local bank.....Out of 500 brand new pennies I have over 30 errors in each 50 coin roll yet theyre only worth 10 cents each?......I even have a 2016 double ear and its only worth $5 bucks?

According to when Wheat pennies were produced they were supposed to be minted with the least errors over its predecessor the Indianhead penny yet theres varieties of wheat pennies produced that are worth quite a bit of $$ not to mention millions more wheat pennies were produced in a new mint over its predecessor.....

Shouldnt that make the IH penny worth more?...Some of this coin stuff seems contradicting aswell as illogical..

Now heres the rub of the situation.....

Ive bought the proofsets already and theyre in my possession......Out of 4 2016 regular proofsets all 4 have Cud errors ,die chip errors,,,errors on the reeded edging,,some doubling which can be seen in the codetalkers post,, a 1.5mm round shiney ring on one of the presidents faces under his eye aswell as a diecrack in one....

Should I send these Proofsets back to the mint because the proofsets value will be diminished down the road or keep them and expect the value to go above the normal ?

Should I take the proof errors from their packaging and get them graded and slabbed or put in airtites?

I havent found a topic yet about proofsets that state whether to keep proofsets that contain errors or not as of yet and Ive searched quite a bit...

All Ive saw is how the interest in them has declined because they added alot of stuff to proof sets the prior year proofsets didnt have and that proofsets with 14pcs are worth a bit more and that everybody seems more concerned about the coins perfection..

Wheres the list of proofset errors and what type of error raises or diminishes a proofsets value for 2016 proofsets...?

As far as the coins toning naturally....I cant see it happening in a special made humidity free cedar chip storage box thats housed inside European made Pelican 1550 cases thats used to encase highly sensitive cameras from the U2 spyplane aswell as modern spydrones built by BAI and pretty sensitive geological testing equipment thats used by our military..

There are two things that I'll point out about the QC of collector coins at the mint.
(1) There seems to visual QC based on what I've received.
(2) The most common problem you'll find is dust/debris inside the sealed containers.

Regarding errors, the harder they are to see with the naked eye, the less they're typically worth. And, machine errors are worth less than die errors. Debris getting pressed in to a coin is quite common, but it would have to be pretty large to be worth some money.
