Need some help on this one... This cent has been broadstruck. If DDO, what premium does it add to the coin? Edited by Dave H 08/13/2016 09:47 am

Can you post a photo of the whole coin? The devices don't appear to be any wider than normal, it looks more like Mechanical Doubling. A date would also be helpful, but that should show on a photo of the entire coin.

I agree Machine damage after the strike that altered the devices. Die Deterioration is usually seen on the sides of the devices closest to the rim. MD can be on either side of the devices. (and sometimes both sides on the same coin)

Something that has been bothering me is the width of the rim. If this were a Pre 1918 cent, I wouldn't be wondering about that. Here is a 1918 cent: On the OPs cent the 'L' on LIBERTY isn't showing in the correct spot. The rim just looks thicker to me on the OPs coin?

they are abnormally thick. But what can that mean? PMD?

Note the rim on the 1917: That is the wide rim. The 1920 looks even wider?

The wide rim was the reason I said I thought it had been broadstruck. Several places around the rim there's a line, like it was struck a second time. Either that or it's PMD of some type

Put a normal coin on each side of your coin to see if the edges are the same thickness? If it is thinner, it may have been carefully squashed. Note the rim on the area that presses into the motto and LIBERTY area moves inwards. (Like a squashed coin would look like) on a broad struck out of collar, it pushes the rim outwards.

No can do. This coin is currently listed on E-Bay, so I cannot compare w/ another coin... Was trying to gather any info on it as I could to help decide if I wanted to buy it, as the seller is asking quite a bit for it.

There may have been a rim ding on the rim, and they tried to cover it up with flattening the rim? Who knows, but it does look altered.
