I am guilty of not having clicked on VCoins' "Community" tab for ages...maybe years. Today I was pleased to see what a great job Zach Beasley and the others there are doing with it: https://community.vcoins.com/In particular I was delighted to see that past issues of The Celator (from 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2008) have been digitized. Perhaps some of you folks knew about this (that these issues are now available online) but I did not. What a nice surprise. Some issues are linked from the main Community page, but here's the better place to start: https://community.vcoins.com/author/thecelator/I've added this link to the Books, downloads, websites thread. For those who have not had the pleasure of reading The Celator while it was being published, and even for those who already read the print versions years ago, there are many hours of potential reading enjoyment ahead. Thanks for the push in a good direction Bob. I can see that I have hours of good reading ahead of me.

The Celator was a great magazine on ancient coins, I subscribed for many years. Too bad it's gone now, but good to see that you can still read them on-line.

Thanks Bob.
May I also commend V-coins for having Zach on their staff. I have had more than my fair share of bad luck with V-coins and Zach has always been utterly proffessional and completely on the ball when acting as a go between in disputes or chasing up items that have gone astray.

I concur, David. The "Beast" is a good guy. I've had constructive correspondence with him too. As those who are new to The Celator will see, he had a monthly column that he co-authored with Kevin Barry called "The Internet Connection." Also, his website beastcoins.com has been very helpful to me over the years as I've worked on attributions...it's a good resource. Beasley's work on the "This Week in History" write-up's, that I receive via email but which are also available on Vcoins' Community page, are impressive and well-researched. Btw, back in February I wrote here about Parthian horsemanship and the Battle of Carrhae: https://goccf.com/t/253250&SearchTe...HorsemanshipAs the anniversary of that battle was approaching in May, I recommended to Zach that it might be a worthy topic for his "This Week" series. Well, he took the bait and did a spectacular job with it, which I really appreciated: http://us2.campaign-archive1.com/?u...e=0525b38cb7

Just an update: I've been in touch with Zach Beasley, who informs me that "When everything is done, all of the issues of The Celator will be on the site."

I'm looking forward to seeing that. I still have a few copies in print, When I moved I tossed a lot of old mags. Wish I would have kept those.

Love being able to read old magazines and when I find them in person at a good price I always buy them.

Just read the letters to the editor and one caught my eye: Quote:

Quote: Just read the letters to the editor and one caught my eye: Yeah, I had read that too (it IS a funny quote) and it struck me as odd that there'd be letters to the editor in the first edition of a new publication. I can only assume that the pre-press word had gotten around through other publications and people were inclined to chime in early.

Another letter to the editor also caught my eye: Quote:As the founder of CLASSICAL COIN NEWSLETTER and currently the International Editor of Coin World. I offer you the best of luck with your new publication on ancient coins. Richard Giedroyc This is the same guy who currently has the "Around the Word" column in the Krause periodical World Coin News.

Is there a way to print these? I really hate reading on a computer screen.
