I won this 1934-D Washington quarter on ebay for $27 on an auction with no other bids.

It has strong luster with some light toning on the obverse and more pronounced toning on the reverse. It's a high grade coin with just a few scattered marks. I can't detect any real wear on it, but thought it best to see what others think. I'm not sure if it's mint state or a nice AU.

Under 10x magnification the spot on Washington's cheek looks more like toning that any rub to me.

I've taken photos under slightly different lighting.

Thanks for your thoughts on this.

I'm sure you can see more toning in person compared to these photos in which I personally can only see some noticeable toning at 12 and 6 o'clock on the reverse.

If it was my quarter, I'd rinse it in some no-residue acetone which has both polar and non-polar components.

This should assist to remove any layers of removable debris that could impede the toning from brandishing its complete characteristics etc

Thanks for all the responses.

I gave the coin a quick acetone bath and it took a bit of the haze off the obverse. I can see that there is a bit of rub on Washington's cheek. On the reverse there is a bit of rub on the eagle's left leg and breast.

I bought this to resell, so I'll list it as a nice AU coin.
