Hi, I posted pics of a coin a few days ago, and it's been bothering me a bit this weekend. I have never questioned the advise and have learned a lot from you all, which I will be forever thankful. But after discussing with my husband my questions regarding this coin, and the fact that I feel like a pest constantly asking questions, he convinced me to ask, because I'll never learn otherwise. So here goes... I found these pics on doubleddie.com after looking up the 1966ddr and compared to mine, can someone please explain the difference to me? I'll post the doubleddie.com pics first then mine. Thanks again

I am not seeing the die scratches noted on Wexler's site, but I did an overlay of your coin verses the known doubled die listed and it looks like a match to me. The die scratches may not show up on your coin due to die state, wear, or just the pictures you took. As far as is it a doubled die or not, it looks like a match to me.

This reminds me of another coin that shows even less doubling and many collectors will mistake for Strike Doubling. The 1950 DDR-001 which can be seen on this page: http://www.lincolncentsonline.com/1...0Photos.html
This page helps explain what Strike Doubling is so you will be able to tell the difference between mechanical or Strike Doubling and double dies. http://www.lincolncentsonline.com/m...oubling.html

The difference? Note this image with a side by side with a normal coin and the DDR:

Strange. Everything is correct, yet the image will not post. I even tried a second one and the same thing?

With a side by side, you can actually see the hub doubled example compare to the normal coin devices are a lot wider. You have to compare them cropped to the same outside width to see the differences.

You have to use all the letters like 'AMERICA' or UNITED. Cropping them on the outside of the end letters and sizing them all the same, it will show what I'm talking about. I still can't post any images I loaded today...8(

We need a photo of UNITED with the light source to the upper right of the coin so we can get a fair comparison. Sometimes when the light is different, it can make the devices appear different.

See how viewing the normal and DDR side by side that while it looks like MD, it isn't. The hub doubling need to be seen side by side of the entire set of devices.
