Hi All. I am new to the forum (joined awhile back but have only been a reader this far, this is my first post). I have had an interest in coins since I was quite young but only recently (in the last couple years) started what I would consider a collection. I wanted to introduce myself but I am also looking for a kind soul to give me a bit of guidance and to lend their expertise. There is such a wealth of information online (often one site/individual's info contradicts another also). I am honestly a bit lost. So, I am looking for somewhat of a coin collecting buddy. Someone I can ask questions of and get opinions from. I realize I can do these things through the forum but I have so many questions. I was simply thinking it would be nice to develop a friendship with a like minded individual who has a bit of extra time & who wouldn't mind having their brain picked. My grandfather was an engineer for NASA and traveled all over the world and he left me many world coins and these are have me the most perplexed but I American coin confuse me too Thanks in advance.

It is good you have been enjoying the site.

I am sure there are several member here that don't mind helping a
new collector.

There are few few experts here ... maybe not as many that will know
all areas of collecting.

Also .. Not sure what the rules are for new members and sending private
messages.

It never hurts to make a couple posts and let the members try to answer your
question.

I do understand some collectors like to keep what the have private.

Sometimes that part is hard to balance.

Welcome to the forum! Depending on all you have you will notice some prominent names for certain areas! Also not sure about the PM's for newer members either think it has to be 50 posts. Either way stay in touch and you will find the right people eventually! :)

I would suggest you stay on here for awhile.. read many posts and find out what interests you.. as well as while you read the posts from others you will figure out who's opinion you may value more than others. Then perhaps send some of those people a private message asking a question or two.... probe them to see what kind of response they will give.

Those are the exact steps I took and I would say because of that I have found a REALLY fantastic mentor who has helped me a lot and given me a lot of guidance in how and where I want to go with my collection.

Ask the questions and note which responses help you the most. Once you have 50 posts, ask the members you enjoyed hearing from.

Thanks for all the welcomes! One of the areas that confuses me most is list of valuable coins. They differ so much from one list the other. There are those that are very well known i.e. the 1955 double die Lincoln Memorial penny, or the 3 leafed corn on the Nebraska State Quarter) but there are so many that are known and you could find an error on any coin, if I'm not mistaken. I also have a bit of a hard time identifying error coins. Obviously there are some that are more pronounced and obvious but more often they are much more subtle imo.

Thanks again for the warm welcome and I'll be hanging around
