I recently purchased a 1978 Jefferson nickel that is over 90% off struck, and the date just so happens to be the only part of the die that is showing (very conveniently). I won it at auction on ebay for $23.36 plus $2.95 shipping, and I'm thinking I got pretty lucky because I had watched a 1999-D off struck only 60% go for $53 (overvalued in my opinion). Now, I know that values are all up to the buyer, but could someone give me a rough estimate of the value of the coin I purchased? I'll have pictures up tomorrow probably, I'm getting repairs done on my computer and I can't use the Free Image Optimizer from my phone. Thanks! Edit: The pictures are in a comment below. Sorry, too lazy to re-upload all the photos. *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***Edited by sonchild 08/21/2016 12:51 am

Ah thank you, Fuzzy317, I'm new as you can see and couldn't find the best forum. I'll do a little looking around.

The descriptions of each section have lists of the coin types discussed. FYI - All Lincoln cents are discussed in the modern coin sections, which includes Wheat Cents, Memorial Cents, Bicentennial Cents, and Shield Cents.

to CCF. If you check ebay sold values it will give you an over-all idea of current value. John1

It may be tough to find a similar coin to compare yours to. 90% off center with the date showing seems like it should be quite rare. Looking forward to your photos. and to CCF!

Years ago I bought a batch off ebay and they were in the $3 range each. Varying off centers. They guy was selling about 100 of these at the time. I bought just a few. So that year because of the pre-pallet bins were more common as they could get them in bags at that time. But prices may have gone up more now.

It is an off cent with indent. Your planchet was struck on top of the next coin struck. So that next coin wouldn't have a date. Unique.

Would that be considered uniface if struck against an unstruck planchet? Thanks, Doug.

I have one of these but it is a cent and it doesn't have a date, one with a date I would think would be pretty rare. I honestly don't know what the value of it would be, If you were interested in selling it, you could throw it on ebay with a reserve, or when you get to 50 posts, you could sell it on this forum

Thanks Dustin, I'm more interested in keeping it. My collection is not very diverse and an error like this gives me something to look at.

I've never seen one that severe.
