It seems some companies will do anything to US coinage to make a buck! Here is a gold plated penny. It is no wonder some people from other countries have such a skewed view of our country.

How much did you pay?

They are still being sold

They are copper-nickel with a gold plated cent insert.

They made 9,999 of them in 2001 (15 years ago) and are still trying to get rid of them.

What is being authenticated on the "certificate of authenticity"? Nothing it seems.

$49.35 (including shipping) for a random common cent (it doesn't even say it has to be a Wheat cent)... which is plated but (presumably) only on one side and (presumably) cannot be safely removed from its encapsulation?

Now even the "unsearched" rolls of wheats on ebay sound like a great deal!
