I found this on the street a couple weeks ago. Not sure on the exact minting date, but these tokens are still in use at the Farmer's Market. These tokens are apparently unrelated to this city's "Find-me-hide-me" art project:

It could be one way the city gauges the amount of money the farmers market generates. Or some area's give the tokens out to low income families to supplement their food budget. Couldn't find it in the token catalog.com for all states. so it most likely is of recent mintage.

I think that you are exactly correct. It seems that people can trade in their EBTs for twice the face value in these tokens.

Yes that's what I was trying to remember they had it on the local TV news that the farmers market in Detroit and a couple of other suburban cities were starting that program, But I couldn't remember the details you jogged the memory!
