I would not do it. I am already reluctant to buy a key coin online; I am even more so with it being raw.

I don't know anything about Lincoln cents but I do know the #1 rule of coin slabbing: If an expensive coin is not slabbed, why not? You would think that someone somewhere who owned it would have had it slabbed sometime.

The answer is usually one of three:

1. It was slabbed and cracked out to sell raw because someone thought it was undergraded. Any buyer who then gets it slabbed may find out that it was graded correctly the first time and will have possibly overpaid

2. There is a problem with the coin that is not evident in pics (i.e. cleaning, minor surface damage, bent, etc.

3. The coin is fake. Especially with a highly valuable and commonly counterfeited coin.

I'm not saying that any of this is the case but still ask yourself why it is still raw. I would love to hear others' opinions on this.

Actually, instead of asking yourself why it is still raw, why not ask the seller? Let us know what he/she says.

Asking the seller why it's raw can never hurt. Probably part of a collection. Seller has great return policy. I'm not saying there's no risk, but sometimes it's a good risk. This looks like a nice coin, and the seller has great feedback. I've bought from them before. That being said, it's probably the highest demand coin there is, and won't go cheap, and a nice slabbed example can be had for around $600.

It looks legitimate to me, but I can't help wondering why the seller doesn't give a close up of the reverse and why there aren't more images.

The seller has great feedback and sells other high dollar coins so he / she seem to know what they are talking about. None of my key coins are slabbed as they are all in my albums with the exception of some I bought to go in my 7070. Not sure if / when I will crack them out. 14 days to look it over sounds good as well.

Looks genuine from the given photos. It will probably look better in hand, scanners tear through the patina and rarely show the true coin. I suspect the brown is probably even and the coin is darker than shown.

Not a big fan of the light corrosion, but I'm sure with better lighting and some verdicare, it'll go right away.

Thanks for the comments you guys have given .Pros and cons from the community are helpful . But now that half the world knows about this coin the bidding will probably skyrocket . just as well I probably would not be able to afford it at hammer time anyway.

CHD - I don't see any corrosion here. Some discoloration here and there, but no ED that I can see. Seems a solid mid-VF (but not +++).
