That was definitely a steal at that price. Can't go wrong there @ that price. What you CAN go wrong with, is buying from a seller who has 0 feedbacks, joined a month ago, and has terrible grammar in an ebay auction. Also not to mention there's no returns, as well as no reverse pictures. I guess it's worth a shot simply because I'm backed by ebay so if something goes wrong, I can appeal it and get my money back.

So what do you guys guess the mintmark will be? P? S? CC?!?!

For $15 I guess it would be worth it for the laughs.

After looking at the picture my guess for the mintmark is PU, that coin stinks.

Post photos when you get it. I want to know what that thing looks like in focus.

Hardly a risk . I pay more than that as a dealer for Morgan's.

It's below melt.

MM is likely S, followed by P, O, and CC, in that order.

I would not bid because of the incorrect date and the quality of the picture. (possibility of fake). At below melt it may appear to be attractive, but only about $3 below melt, not worth the risk if fake, or the effort if genuine.

Melt value is $14.25 right now. These contain about 0.774 troy ounces of actual silver weight.

Hardly a risk at the hammer price. My guess would be S mint. They are pretty common in circulated condition and the up side would be rev. of 78 or CC mint mark. Keep us posted.

When you buy coins at melt price you are just stacking bullion and hoping the coins may rise in value or that silver may rise in value. Perhaps you are survivalist and think we may have debased currency and you must use silver to buy a loaf of bread. You buy cheap coins, cheap. I understand it but risks are high. Price of silver may drop back to $8 an ounce or rocket up to $30 an ounce. This is really gambling in all sense of the word. The only good thing for young coin collectors would be for price of silver and gold to drop so they could buy gold and silver coins more cheaply IMO. There have just been 2 really true bull markets in silver and gold in last 40 years. I do love big silver coins but not in melt condition.

I don't see anything wrong with the auction... I don't see any bad grammar. I do see a simple date mistake, which probably attracted MORE attention to the auction. The picture isn't great but it is clear enough to show that it has fairly original surfaces. I would say fairly confidently that the coin is original and how can you go wrong at $15?

Even a blind man can see the coin in the poor photo is real. Rookies like that seller get picked off all the time on ebay.
Coin is probably San Francisco mint .
Proper picture and description the coin easily brings 20 bucks plus. Drew got a bit of a deal ( good on him) , but certainly not an earth shattering one.

If it is S mint, check for reverse of 1878. That would be a nice touch.
