I've just come across this (seemingly) unique coin. I have some questions: 1. Is it legitimate clip error? 2. If so, is there any documented case of this error? 3. What is its approximate market and wholesale values?

IMO that is NOT a real clip. There's a hint of the Blakesley Effect but for a clip of that side the Effect should be greater. And the rim at both ends of the clip should appear to be "fading".

Does not look real to me, but I'm not positive.
Did you buy it?

What bothers me the most is the lack of fading toward the clipped area on the devices.

This is an odd-looking coin in several respects - the mashed lower rim, the strange cheek hit pattern. I don't think it's a genuine clip either, but even if it were, I wouldn't think it would rate high on the IHC error desirability list.

Before you throw this one back - I believe this clip is genuine. Besides the Blakesely effect, I see metal flow along the clip. I am about 90% confident. Realistically, fake clips (created with malicious intent vs. simple damage) are relatively uncommon, and that is what this would have to be with that strength of a Blakesley Effect. And usually when someone is going through the effort of faking the Blakesley Effect, it is done by grinding/shaving, which I do not see evidence of here. Lastly, clips on 1907 Indians are super common. Likely atleast 15 clipped indians of this date show up on ebay every year. However, yours is larger than average and in much better condition. Au details in my opinion. As for value, Id say between $10 and $15. Unfortunately not very much.

It looks legit, the rims dovetail in, but I don't like the sharpness of the devices adjacent to the clipped portion. I'd like to see the edge of the clipped portion...

Looks genuine IMO, it has the Blakesely effect seen from most coins of this nature. A close up on the side will show more evidences.
