Greetings, My wife inherited her Father's coin collection and not being collectors she wants to sell it but we have no idea how to proceed. She knows the value of some of the sets but there are many other sets and loose coins that will need to be appraised(?). How do we go about finding a trustworthy dealer or individual to assist us with this? We understand there will be a fee or commission paid for this service. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Shawn

nugget. Sorry for your family's loss. Perhaps search for PCGS / NGC certified coin dealers in your area first. Perhaps a forum member would have someone they would recommend. In what part of the country do you live?

Not sure if you have kids or plan on having kids, but this might be a great gift for one or two of them. IF you don't need money right now, just put those away somewhere for the future and kids, if any.

Whatever you do, go slow. When in doubt, pause. Eventually you know what you have by doing a little research, and then you will know where/how to sell it. This forum will pretty much be able to answer any question, or point you in the right direction.

Kids are grown and don't care. They would just sell them. No grandkids. We would rather use the money for something we would enjoy.

I know a coin dealer in East Texas who I have always found to have integrity. I've dealt with him for more than 6 years. Let me know if you want his contact information.

If you're in no big rush, find a coin club there in New Orleans and attend a couple of meetings. Talk with the other collectors, and see if some of them are ebay dealers. You may be able to get good photos taken of your coins and put them on ebay yourself, or consign them, as an alternative to a sale at a coin shop.
