I moved your post to the section for Modern Coin varieties. It looks like the coin has a large Cud. I wish the image of the reverse was a little clearer.

Better pictures would be great! It looks like a Zinc cent and they didn't start making them until 1982.

It is a real Die Cud. The reverse show just what I need to see to verify it is the real deal. Nice find.

Congrats on a great find Misty. GOoooooo Dawgs Sicum. If you know what that means then you know were I'm from and by the way welcome to the sight. Your coin shows some corrosion which means it is a Zincoln 1982 the mint changed the composition from 95% copper to 99% zinc core. once the copper plating has been compromised it exposes the zinc core. Zinc is very corrosive when exposed to the environment. So your coin was struck after 1982

Welcome to CCF! Great first find and first post, haha. Usually seems like most people's first posts are 99% NOT errors. This must be part of the 1%

to the Community! You have found a nice Cud. cudAn area of a coin struck by a die that has a complete break across part of its surface. A Cud may be either a Retained Cud, where the faulty piece of the die is still in place, or a full Cud, where the piece of the die has fallen away. Retained Cuds usually have dentil detail if on the edge, while full Cuds do not.
