Bad picture of only the obverse on this large cent. Surfaces and color looked pretty nice though. High VF to low XF sharpness. Hope the reverse looks similar. For $14.99 I thought it was worth the risk.Interestingly the seller was called machine shop machines. Might explain the picture problems. http://www.ebay.com/itm/LARGE-CENT-...047675.l2557Edited by jerryc39 08/31/2016 08:58 am

Great catch. Finding such goodies takes time but you've been rewarded.

You can get some great deals on ebay if you find a seller who isn't experienced with taking photos of coins, if you are willing to take a chance. I hope this one works out! I've had some successes with this, but if you do this much you can buy a loser from time to time. I did that recently when I saw an out of focus 1864 2 cent piece that I convinced myself was a small motto. It was in G-04 or G-06 condition and he was asking $25, so I bought it, only to find out I was wrong. So I overpaid for a large motto thinking I was getting a great deal on a small one! I guess the upside is that it made me research it more and find other distinguishing markers that would have helped me on that buy.

I was going to mention that the seller offers free returns, meaning they pay for shipping both ways. One would assume that you won't be returning though, but you just don't see that very often..

That looks like a coin worth taking a chance on.
A little scary not being able to see a reverse picture ..
I would have taken the chance, if I has seen it.

Correct machine20. The seller pays if you are returning it for a legitimate reason that can be considered the seller's fault, like the item being misrepresented in some way or damaged in shipping (yes, the seller is responsible for what the USPS does to his package). If you decide you simply don't like the item then you have to pay.

I am impressed as well. We have some sharp buyers here who get much better deals than I do. Of course, for ebay I am not awake making bids at 3am which is when you probably get best deals when you are bidding against 40 other bidders. The deals I get on ebay are usually just a bit more expensive than my local coin shop. Thing is I trust the owner of local coin shop. He has never tried to deceive me or put one over on me.

I recently bought from that same seller and he was legit. I did have a coin from him that members here questioned as being cleaned though. https://goccf.com/t/267548
