It seems like sometimes there is nothing good on ebay, then suddenly all the good stuff gets put up at once. Just won three lots from one "Prados" from Spain (also on Vcoins so I figured all this is on the level) Lot 1: From left to right, top to bottom: 1. Claudius as, CONSTANTIAE AVGVSTI SC 2. Augustus, IVLIA TRAD (VCTA) 3. ? Iberio-Celtic? 4. ? 5. ? 6. Castulo, Iberia (and one of the nicest I have seen in a very long time) Lot 2: 1. Augustus, IVLIA TRAD (VCTA) 2. Trajan? 3. Magnus Maximus 4. Claudius II? 5. Gallienus, Antelope 6. Republican quinarius? 7. Gallienus, Antelope 8. Augustus, Colonia Patricia, religious instruments Lot 3: 1-3. Bronze junk? Seller claims they are pre-monetary tokens but I'm not sure. 4. Hadrian? 5. Defaced fourree? 6. Arcadius? GLORIA ROMANORVM 7. Republican something. As? Semis? Janiform head/galley 8. Trajan? 9. ? 10. Augustus provincial? 11. Probably Gratian? 12. Iberio-Celtic 13. Augustus, COLONIA PATRICIA? 14. Augustus, IVLIA TRAD (VCTA) 15. ? Very promising and Celtic-looking portrait though 16. Republican quinarius, Egnatuleia. Head of Apollo / Victory inscribing shield on trophy All this for about $4 per coin; hoping to recoup some of the cost by flipping the duplicate Augustus coins. Anybody have ideas on what the mystery coins might be?

Wow!, at $4 a piece you can't go wrong. There are some really nice coins. The Roman Republic AS is worth at least what you paid for lot four.

Is it an as? I had always thought the Republican as was a monstrous hockey puck of a coin. Or maybe that was just the early aes grave?

nice work @finn. I can see that you are stocking up for a long winter of attributing coins.

In your first lot you have: 1. Claudius as, CONSTANTIAE AVGVSTI SC 2. Augustus, IVLIA TRAD (VCTA) 3. Iberic copy of a roman semis (used as small change by roman army, they were at least tolerated by the roman authorities) 4. As of IRIPPO in southern Spain (and one of the nicest I have seen in a very long time)5. Semis of Carthago Nova (Actual Cartagena) 6. Castulo, Iberia (and one of the nicest I have seen in a very long time) The reverses of coins 4 and 5 are mixed... As from Irippo Semis from Colonia Vrbs Ivlia Nova cartago

You cannot go wrong with deals such as these ! Co incidentally I was just spending a few hours browsing around Iberia. Interesting things I see ! Unfortunately I am feeling poor at the moment. Hopefully that will pass .......
You should be able to recoup most of your investment with a little time spent on attributions (half done !) and keep the best for your efforts ! Nice when things work out like that ...... no ?

Thanks all, and especially Albert for the ID help!
Funny, I actually acquired an Irippo earlier in the year. It's a very curious coin!
Just curious, is the imitation part of an attributable series, or do they just get lumped under "unofficial"?

These coins were made in southern Spain, and sometimes are found in little hoards with official coins so I think that they are coins made in iberic mints to supply the markets with small change, neccesary to daily economic life... The first copies are of great weight, almost the same of the official coins but the later ones are very light copies...

i saw those and strongly considered making a go at them, but just didn't have the cash....even at the low price in went for. glad to see it they went to a good home.
some of the most fun I've had with coins lately, had been with a lot like that. several cheap but identifiable coins.
enjoy!

I do not know if this post is against the rules, but if you flip some of these coins will they be on ebay or elsewhere? If this is against the rules, please delete and accept my apologies.
