I don't think so either. A lot of people actually find it not appealing and it might hurt the price of the coin

That looks horrible I don't understand why the grade doesn't take a hit for stuff like that

ICCS grades based on detail only and not eye appeal.

I believe PCGS could give or take up to 1 point for eye appeal. Not sure if any other TPG does it too

because ICCS grades technically, not by eye appeal. I'm not sure of the point of this thread to be completely honest...there's no premium, it's an auction, and it's just an ugly common coin, no shortage of those om ebay. I say it goes in the $90 neighborhood.

sorry , my point was not if there was a premium, but why would anyone have this graded with the obvious distraction.. not a coin I would put on my folder.

That is one awful looking "65". Time to send all my 2 letter and embossed seal "63" and "64" dollars. Bound to get some monster upgrades. That is a coin with NO eye appeal.

Different point to make here about the coin, the obverse is pretty nice, if this coin were dipped and re holdered would the eye appeal be nicer? Would the print disappear if the coin were dipped?
PS I have never dipped and certified a coin, or resubmitted a coin, just curious about people's thoughts on this...

If a fingerprint on a coin could be certified as belonging to a famous person, that would probably bring a premium. I've never seen one however.

I'm curious about this as well. But I don't think it would increase the eye appeal because I'd guess both the frosty cameo and the fingerprint would disappear, covered by the telltale artificial blast white appearance of the dip?

I have a coin similar to the one in the picture. Unfortunately it is in the original RCM capsule and took many years for the fingerprint to appear.

I think it comes down to eye appeal and/or possible surface damage. This wouldn't be a good example but I've seen some very cool older finger printed coins that toned really cool without affecting the surface that probably wouldn't loose a point in the grading process. However I could see a "mental" MS65 limit for Canadian coins because of it. As always, I like technical grading. Just because you don't like the coin or it's the ugly duckling, it doesn't make it a 64. Market value of such a coin is a whole different story.

Dipping will not remove the fingerprint that's likely been there for half a century.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...
