Well, I've entered into this forum out of curiosity, in hopes of learning more about the topic. I have to confess I'm a total newbie. My collecting interests lie more in the area of music; records and guitars, etc., but particularly LPs. which I've been buying since I was a little kid in the 60's and 70s. Consequently a lot of the stuff I have is from that era, but not exclusively. I often score cool stuff at garage sales and thrift stores. What a thrill when you find an original copy of Elvis's first LP at a garage sale for 50 cents! It's fascinating how many different pressings of a particular title can exist, what with all the slight variations with the label, track listings, alternate takes of songs... knowing what to look for in the little etchings in the runoff or "dead wax" area.

I'd imagine the Coin World has a bit of a learning curve with knowing "what to look for". I'm not too familiar the terminology. My curiosity was piqued a few months ago when something came up on my ebay feed about a 1965 US quarter that was mistruck or double struck (something like that) on another coin, I don't exactly remember the details or how much it went for, but it got me to thinking -- I should look at my quarters! Since then, I've found a few that seem a little different... but perhaps they just are really badly worn out! One seemed weird enough that I managed to take a picture of it, and maybe I'll share it. But I feel kinda silly as it's probably not anything rare and is likely worth 25 cents. And its condition alone probably precludes it from being of any value, even if it was rare... That said, I may be bold enough to upload a pic of it a little later on or tomorrow. Perhaps someone can validate my doubt ... or hope!

easonic!

I am also relatively new here, but I can tell you that in just a couple of months the folks here have taught me more about coin collecting (and other aspects of numismatics) than I have learned from any other source. And the peeps here are fun, friendly, and have a wide variety of interests.

After you have 50+ posts, join the General Discussion subforum, where there is a great thread on music, e.g., I just posted my favorite live Led Zeppelin performance that are available online (Danmarks Radio, March 1969).

Your mention of Elvis LPs reminds me of an Elvis album my mother saved from her teen years that has "The Pelvis!" scrawled across the cover. To this day she says with a wry smile, "I don't know who in the world wrote that!"
