Why give positive feedback? it may not have made a difference in this particular case but the feedback is so future buyers can know that the seller is bad at packaging items and perhaps ask for additional packaging or avoid this seller and buy from someone who packages better.

I did call poopjoy several times and made it clear I was not asking for anything, not a dime, just wanted them to know about their packaging "issues".
I was met with hostility and disbelief both times and the feeling that the pobjoy representative thought I was lying. sure, I got nothing better to do, even tho I was not asking for any kind of reimbursement or gain. I just wanted them to know.
her meany responses were mostly along the "this has never happened before". as I said, I resisted responding by saying "there is a first time for everything".
I did give the seller positive feedback because he sent it exactly as he got it from popjoy and very likely it did not even occur to him, plus he did re-imburse me $200 without me asking about me wanting to be reimbursed.
plus I put nearly all the blame on pobjoy's packaging incompetence and the post office rough handling rather than the seller, altho he could have prevented it by using common sense and looking at the inside of the case.
but I learned and when I later picked up the matching silver set, I messaged the seller several times to please make sure the capsules could not escape their indentations in the case. he put a piece of tape across each coin, problem solved. I would have just wrapped a piece of tape around the entire capsule, but it got to me fine.

Quote: several of the capsules had escaped their case indentations through rough handling by the post office, and worse, one of the coins had escaped its capsule and the obverse had rubbed against the metal ring that was included in the set and became seriously scratched. The US Mint had a similar problem with the 2011 silver eagle anniversary set. A lot of people got their sets with the capsules and sometimes the coins loose rattling around in the box. You say you bought these sets from a private seller. Is there any chance that Pobjoy had additional padding in the box but someone over the years removed it?

I'm laughing at some of these comments with "incompetent" people packaging things. I've had a fair share from the past year on ebay. I've got a lot of deals on ebay this past year that I've been really happy with. For example, I got a 1913 D T2 buffalo in VG for $7.00 with free shipping. Seller put it up as a Type 1, but showed Type 2 pictures, so I took that risk and got it for $7. Regardless, that's irrelevant. I've had numerous people put tape right onto coins in packages. I had some idiot send about $20 worth of coins I bought (note: There were about 20 coins total as well) in one single handed envelope that he thought would be smart to do. Luckily he packaged the coins well, but the envelope did NOT make it. Somehow it got drenched in water, and the address (both return and non-return) got smeared and were barely legitable. I don't even know how it managed to end up at my house, but after some time, it returned in a body bag from USPS with a sincere apology (keep in mind this was several months after I had been refunded) I said to the guy I'd send him $10 in the mail, but I never actually did that. I completely got tied up in other things and completely forgot about it. I felt bad, don't get me wrong, but come on, if it was in a padded envelope, things would have turned out a lot better. Regardless, I've had several coins on the borderline of falling straight out of the "package" (aka a letter that is VERY thin). The coins have been clinging on for dear life as the letter has been ripped. I can't really think of anything else, I just know I got a contemporary counterfeit in the mail several weeks ago and the idiot put tape directly on the coin, and it was pretty sticky. Took some time to remove the tape residue. Also had people wrap stuff up in Kleenex and paper towls. That's pretty disgusting because usually when it arrives, it's all wet or sticky or something from environmental factors and what not. It's just gross, especially when it stinks of cigarettes. On top of that, I've had people wrap stuff up weird. I had a guy a week ago or two use a partial list of deceased Vietnam War Veterans to use as padding paper to tape up the coins. Also had addresses and misc. stuff. I guess people just grab whatever. There'll be a day where I get a SSN, I can guarantee it. People are stupid.

Condor, while it was possible that pobjob had additional padding, I really doubt it. I thought the same until I got the matching silver set... like the first set, there was only one thin foam rubber padding "slice". I do not understand the logic, if there were more padding, why somebody would remove it and leave the thin padding in the case.
there had been a mixup in the delivery and the package went thousands of miles in the wrong direction before I was able to redirect it to my correct address. It had made many stops along the way. I am convinced that the capsules came loose out of their case indentations because of rough handling by the post office. the box was small, so it was a lot easier to toss (hence a hard drop to the floor after it had bounced off of a wall) than to carry to wherever the employee wanted it.
if the second package had additional packing, ok, I would go for the seller not padding it correctly as the primary blame. but as I said, they both had exactly the same "packing".
I read the post where the seller STUCK TAPE TO THE COIN ITSELF!

It is such an easy thing to do... just wrap a piece of lightweight tape AROUND THE CAPSULE ITSELF.
also, I had forgotton about the metal numbered plate in the case. it is very likely that the coin got scratched by rubbing itself on it over and over and over... on the plate itself. the reason why the other side of the coin was not damaged was because, altho there was more than enough room for the capsules to escape their case indentations and for the capsule to come apart, there was not enough room for the coin itself to "flip over" in the case... it would have needed about an inch or more of "freespace for that to happen instead of the roughly 3/4" freespace that was there, if you look at the photo of the inside of the case you will see what I mean.

As 99.99% of my coins are sourced from the Net I have had many instances of coins being taped onto paper/cardboard, loose coins in packages, Coins polished as a "favour" so that they look better for Me and groups coins just shoved into a ziplock bag together so that they get bagged badly in transit. It is not that hard to tell that a seller has NO idea about coins just by the way they are shipped.

it is like that when you buy a single coin already not in a case (and no guarantees on that either, I know by personal experience) that you have to BEG the seller, SEVERAL TIMES, whether they are "experienced" coin sellers to "PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PACK THIS COIN SAFELY, and then you have to tell them the various methods on how they can do it. I dunno, I just think that there are so many "mega sellers" on ebay, they or their staff just toss an unprotected coin in an envelope and the attitude is that it is now your problem... while they beg you to give them "NO LESS THAN 5 STARS PLEASE!

I think that there are plenty of lousy buyers and sellers, so it is not like a one-way thing here. both buyers and sellers can suck... and, don't forget my original saying... "90% of my problems are caused by people who are either incompetent, stupid or greedy... or a combination thereof".
