Finally believe I've found my first true gem Morgan. Not a cherry pick year but not one of the most common morgans either. Picked this up for 60, labeled raw as a 65 bold strike. What are your opinions? Weighed 26.67g and looks legit to my untrained eye.

Any VAM comments are awesome. Looks like a small die gouge near front neck edge, or maybe pushed metal from what looks to me like the worst hit this coin has received. Thanks!

Looking at this on my phone so can't comment with accuracy but looks like a 65, at minimum, to me based on what I can see. Gorgeous coin. Congrats!

the reverse is stellar on this one. some contact marks on the obverse may keep it just shy of MS66. conservatively MS65

MS65, very rusted dies should help you VAM it fairly easily. Strike is average/average+, not bold

Don't understand exactly what you mean by rusted , paralyse, but I'm gonna guess the rough texture in fields? Thats pretty cool, and I haven't learned much at all about varied details of the morgan. Guess I have a few years or decades to look forward to filling in brain storage

Morgan dollars, like many coins, were struck in quantities using various pairs of dies. Sometimes, the dies would be used long enough that moisture would cause them to rust, and the coins struck from rusted dies have unique "dots" of metal where rust had attacked the faces of the dies. The appearance is quite distinctive.

Reverse is MS66 easy, but obverse is MS64. I don't know on this one. I feel like it should net out to MS65, but those 3 scratches and the hairline, tiny tiny 4th scratch kills it for me a bit.
