I have a gold ancient that I need help identifying. I've had a really hard time figuring out what coin this is and what a rough value is. If anyone could please help me with this I would greatly appreciate this.

Thanks

My uneducated guess is that it is a Byzantine solidus of some sort. Someone else will exentually come along and either add on or correct me.

From Venice, not my area of expertise, but this basic design was struck for centuries from around 1300 to 1700.

It is a medieval coin from Venice, I'm not able to read the legend but I'm sure someone will come along that can help.

Here is a link that might help: http://www.ancientresource.com/lots...enetian.html

Obverse right (bottom pic) reads ANTO VENERIO, so Antonio Venier, 1382 - 1400.

@martinezcoin, first welcome to CCF! Second, I agree with Bob (he's wicked smart) on this one. You have a ducat from Venice under Antonio Venier. The attribution is Biaggi 2853. Great coin!
