Hi everyone,

I an new here. I inherited my grandfathers decent coin collection a few years ago and never really investigated these until now. I will probably be posting a lot as I go through these. I have a 1945 Mercury dime with an odd mark struck into the coin. Has anyone ever seen something like this?

Looks like someone to a spent shell from a gun (probably a 22) and hammered onto the coin, leaving that ring. So basically you have a damaged coin. It is still a silver coin and worth silver melt. (sentimental value maybe higher because it was from your grandfather.
