I mentioned this note vaguely in Wheat's rarity thread however I wanted to provide some information about this bank and the currency it issued.
The Seymour National Bank located in Seymour, Iowa was organized July 3, 1918. The bank had $50,000 in capital. This institution succeeded the Bank of Seymour, a state-charted bank.
The officers of the national bank were:
M. H. Wilson, President; W. H. McCabe, Vice-President; A. J. Davis, Cashier; R. W. Lowry, Assistant Cashier
Wilson had been the President at the Bank of Seymour. Davis had worked as a cashier in two other banks prior to his joining the Seymour National Bank. The three notes I have seen carried their signatures.
Davis passed away in November 1921. L. Clifford Gordon replaced him as Cashier.
The bank issued Series 1902 Plain Back $10's and $20's which carried bank serial numbers 1 to 4560. The sheets consisted of three $10s and 1 $20 note.
Total number of $10's issued was 13,680 and 4,560 $20's. Grand total issued was $228,000. The latest population report shows there are 4 tens and 1 twenty reported.
The Seymour National Bank was liquidated on January 2, 1926 when it was absorbed by the First National Bank of Seymour (Charter# 8247). First National continued operating for another four years and issued Series 1929 Type 1 currency before it liquidated on December 17, 1930. It was succeeded by the National Bank of Seymour.
