I check fairly regularly to see if there are new boxes of proofs to transcribe sometimes there are, sometimes not.
I have been fortunate to catch some boxes where only a few volunteers were entering data. I find myself looking at the notes closer--really looking at the intricate engraving all of which was done by hand.
With my NBN census CD already inserted, sometimes I type in the charter number to see if there are notes reported on a bank. Sometimes there are, sometimes there aren't.
I never knew there was a Welcome National Bank in Welcome, Minnesota until I entered the data from a proof sheet. There are other interesting town and bank names like the FNB of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota.
Has anyone else helped with the transcription?

This is the first I've heard about this. What are these transcriptions? Does this relate to the high-res scanning of the Smithsonian's National Money Collection? Can anyone volunteer and how would you go about this?

Sorry I didn't reply sooner Greg The Smithsonian is scanning their collection of proof national bank note sheets. Then, volunteers look at the sheet to transcribe the info from the sheet. Anyone can volunteer all you need to do is make an account. https://transcription.si.edu/browse?filter=owner:7-MV

This is fascinating! I had no idea the Smithsonian had enlisted volunteers for this project. I know of many other collectors who might like to participate. I think I will join in as well. Thanks a lot for posting this!

One word of advice is to check back for new projects once one box is done
Monday I checked after not doing so for a while and there was Missouri Box 3 ready for transcription.

Box #5 of Missouri Nationals is about 1/4 of the way complete.
If anyone here is interested in Mississippi Nationals, the first box has been added for transcription.

MeadowviewCollector, When I get to heaven, THAT is what I want it to be like! I have so signed up. I remember working at a friend's machine shop and doing the sand blasting. I did it all. I redid some that didn't look right. And then I went around and picked up machined pieces to sand blast them. And cutting out propellers, I could do that all day long. Sigh. Thank you for that link, MeadowviewCollector! There are some interesting transcriptions to do in Physics and Astronomy, also. Probably some other neat dog dew too! The pictures of alla them bills, oh my.

I'd like to help -- how long does it take to enter just one note?
