Yesterday I got another batch of coins back from ANACS. This coin I am happy with the grading. But, I guess it would always be nice to get better. I see a lot of 1970 Washington quarters on ebay, asking for a lot of money ... Should I list this one for say .. 20K ..

That is an exceedingly rare 1970D quarter. In that condition you should have no problem getting 20k. Should have gone with PCGS then you might have a shot at 30k.

Dang ... didn't think about PCGS.
It might be a little bit rare ... I thought with 30 views someone would see it

I never understood why the 70d was so commonly struck on a dime planchet. Anybody have an answer?

The way I heard it. The mint has two rooms/areas. One cuts the roll of stock into bars, the other punches out planchets from the bars. In this case the first group thought they were doing dimes, so they were using a large roll of dime stock. The second group thought they were doing quarters .. so they were cutting out quarter planchets from bars made of dime stock.
If I remember what I read ..
If someone knows a more accurate answer .. please post

Hey, if you can get 20k for it, go for it! (Even if it's 20k cents. ) That's a cool coin.

GR58's explanation is correct. The strip was fed through a slot in the wall.
These were exceedingly common for many years in the '70's and a major source of frustration. They wouldn't work in vending machines so I's always be johnny on the spot tooffer a "good quarter" for anything that didn't work. Usually I got either one of these or a silver quarter so I came out ahead to make up for the things that had little or no value at all. Of course I got a lot of Canadian quarters, slugs, and world coins. I never got a nice counterfeit so I wouldn't believe people when they claim to have contemporary counterfeit clad. A few showed up in the mid-'80's and I never got one of these either.
I could spot these sitting in the plastic rolls at the bank and would always request that specific roll.
You'd be surprised how many of these ended up in the trash. People would get frustrated and throw them in the garbage. Uncs are rather elusive and nice "attractive" coins like the one pictured are less common. All are poorly struck and most are in a mid to high end AU.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

Thanks for posting cladking
I do remember putting these quarters over and over into pop machines. They would just slide right through. I wish I had kept more of them.
I do have another one. Not as good of grade.
Not sure if a XF/AU would be worth grading.
