Well I have wanted to detect for a while and I have been looking for units on ebay and such my better half wants me to spend under $100 on a machine and I have found a few on ebay in that price range.

Any thoughts on like the bounty hunter gold digger series?

Check them out on this link. It was very helpfull in my decision.
I have good things about Bounty Hunter. My brother bought a bounty hunter discovery 1100 and seems to like it.

Here's the link.

I have just been getting stuff gathered to start detecting myself & from my research the garret ace 250 or 150 is a good place to start cheap.
I got a practically new ace 150 on ebay for 70 shipped to me. I hae only had the chance to try this once since receiving it ( it's been either to cold or rainy/cold here in PA)

The Bounty Hunter Gold Digger will find targets. It does not have interchangeable coils. It won't go as deep as the Bounty Hunter models with interchangeable coils. A used model with more capabilities might be the better way to go. It's your choice and whichever way you go post up your finds. Fill your holes back in though.

We used to handle BH. Nothing but junk. They have a habit of ownership changing frequently, and all the existing machines being abandoned. In many cases, they no longer even have schematics to repair them from.

Based on their track record, I'd stay away from them. You get what you pay for.
