1. Select those coins which you feel you should keep, for whatever reason that best suits your needs and interests. I would suggest that some of your reasoning may include some upside investment potential, or current value of a particular item.

2. Select those coins that you feel you could do without, again for whatever suits your needs and interests.

3. With the coins you decide to keep, arrange them in such a way that they tell a cohesive story, according to those interests; that should also help in your selection process.

4. Dispose of those coins you decide to part with, perhaps eBaying them in roughly $100 lot values.

5. Help to pay off your credit card debts or accelerate your mortgage payments with the cash realised from ebay sales.

Some very good ideas
Sort of what I did on the albums, don't really need
any duplicate albums.

House and cards are paid off ... so would have to use
the money to buy more coins ...

This next group ... not sure what I will do with it.
Could get rid of some Lincoln rolls .. but I only have face
in them.

Not keeping the Lincolns in the safe would work for me.
Just have to figure out a good place to put them.

Working late into the night .. and getting up early, working more.

I see now it is much more work to downsize a collection,
than it is to just pile more on.

Calm down, Alice Cooper, there surely is a solution for all this. Apart from the mandatory 'send all unwanted coins to me', of course.

What I would do is first of all create an overview of what you actually have and also an overview of what you actually want to collect. It may take a bit of time, especially since you have quite a big lot there, but I usually find it very refreshing to have an overview of the current situation and a bit of an image of the wanted situation. Excel should be of help here.

At the end of the day you might end up with both a 'want' list and a 'surplus' list. The surplus list is just to find a way to sell, then. Or trade for things on your want list, of course.

I found myself in a similar situation a few times (not with coin collecting but with other things) and really getting these overviews helped me a lot.

I do not think nightmare means what you think it means.

First, I have to get this out of the way, but I would like to reserve the right to first refusal of any Eisenhower dollars you may be liberating.

Second, I truly believe haste makes waste. Remember, take deep breaths, take your time, do not do anything you will regret. I think your posting this thread is a sign that you are going about this the right way.

You obviously have a passion for this, so savour every minute of it.

Wow, GR, that collection is amazing. As I am a newbie and don't know you, I would ask have you no children and/or other relatives you'd like to give some of your coins to? Also, would you not want to sell what you want to get rid of,,such as on ebay?
