I hope you really like it ... --------------------------------------- My wife went out of town to be with her mom for a few weeks. I am going to take this time to ...try .. downsize my collection. Recently it has been suggested this is something I should do. It really has gotten out of hand and space is a big problem. I am separating the collection into four section. Albums 2X2 boxes Roll boxes Slabbed coins. First I looked at Albums. Below is most of them. I got it down to 45 albums, that for now will be the core of my collection.

Next is 2X2 boxes ... Here is where I am stuck. Most of these coins I am not sure why I have them. There are some better coins, but many are common. Any suggestions on what to do with these is welcome.

Yikes that's a lot of coins.
Idea #1:You said that many are common--you could spend any coin worth less than a buck. If that is too many, then spend any coin worth only face value. Idea #2: Make goodie bags for Halloween and put in candy plus a coin or two. When the kids empty their pails at the end of the night, they won't have a clue who gave them coins with their candy so you can remain anonymous.

Where did some of these coins you departed with already go? Is there an ebay page or a CCF listing I possibly missed? ;D good luck downsizing I went through that and it takes a while! I still am only about 2/3 done too but I keep putting it off

Spence ...I have thought about just dumping some at face ...
But .. A few boxes are wheats. And some are boxes of just proofs. Some are coins from mint sets.
A couple boxes are going the bank, SDB. That is part of this project. Starting out taking every coin worth over $100 to lock up in the bank.
------------------ MK ... I just started this afternoon ... so I am just building a pile to get rid of for now. Planning on taking some complete albums sell On consignment at LCS

Think outside of the box. Some of the cents could make some really interesting elongated coins. I wonder what a proof LMC would look like after going through a stretched penny machine. Maybe I will have to try it.

Find a geocacher and give them some treasure to bury.
Give a few to a coin club for kids prizes.

Ill take some coins off your hands. In all seriousness, when I have low value coins I want to get rid of, I donate them to my coin club's YN program. Being a YN myself, I like to give a little back when I can.

I think it is helpful to see something like this, to keep one's own accumulations in check.
I have totally given up on albums anyway. I rarely want to look at coins in person. I am more interested in the thrill of the hunt.

You could place some of the common (but not spendable) coins in tubes rather than 2x2s. This could reduce the space required by 2-4x. For example, almost all my junk silver is stored in tubes, with a just a few odd-sized coins in flips. My junk gold is either in tubes or flips (in the safe deposit box).

Quote: You could place some of the common (but not spendable) coins in tubes rather than 2x2s I was thinking about that too. I do have a lot of coins in tubes, have not pulled them out yet. I did combine some of the 2X2 boxes .. but I think some are going to make their way to coin tubes. ------------------- Quote:

Part three of this mess .. I started digging around trying to find every slabbed coin. Some I forgot I had. Again .. not sure what to do with these.

1. Select those coins which you feel you should keep, for whatever reason that best suits your needs and interests. I would suggest that some of your reasoning may include some upside investment potential, or current value of a particular item. 2. Select those coins that you feel you could do without, again for whatever suits your needs and interests. 3. With the coins you decide to keep, arrange them in such a way that they tell a cohesive story, according to those interests; that should also help in your selection process. 4. Dispose of those coins you decide to part with, perhaps eBaying them in roughly $100 lot values. 5. Help to pay off your credit card debts or accelerate your mortgage payments with the cash realised from ebay sales.

Unless you've got a 1995-W in there, I would sell every single slabbed ASE. There are millions of these things floating around, and they just don't add any value (in my opinion). You can keep a nice ASE collection in air-tites, or mint capsules, and store them in a red 2x2 box. Or in the mint's green top tubes, if you are just keeping an accumulation.

It's hard to tell what all you've got there, but I think any slabbed modern is a good candidate for downsizing (and literally down-spacing).
