Hi. I'm new to this hobby. Been coin roll hunting for a couple of months now. I came across this 1981 P dime with "ledge" running across the reverse. It seems to weigh (don't have a scale), feel, and sound (when dropped), like any other dime. Its is also much shinier. Has anyone ever seen this type of "error"?

Perhaps jewelry, but it doesn't seem like it.

Lets let the experts chime in.

I'll agree with coinlover. It was part of some kind of jewelry at one time.
Rest in Peace

Ex Jewelry. Also, in the future, dont do the drop test. It will damage the coin

Jbuck - thanks for moving my post to the correct forum.
coinlover, jasper, Buddy, and Dustin6 - I think you are right. It does kind of look like it may have been a pin of some sort.
But I'm kinda wondering like Steele is as to why would someone use a 1981 p dime for jewelry?

Also thanks for the info guys. I appreciate it.

Maybe someone was born in 1981 and thought it would make a cool pin.

I agree. Note the solder is higher than the rim. I can't think of any mint issue that would have caused this. PSD
