Marc, the idea to put this "learning aid" here was partially mine, but the credit to it being as handy as it has been on other forums, is Coops expertise! He may not be the first, but he is the one That has shown me the value if this device. He deserves the credit!
You make a good explanation of what has happened there. There are three other points that I still want to research even more to tell what occured. It is I the same general area. As I get more used to the "overlay procedure, I will post and show what and where I refer to. This device will work on aby coin, as long as the DATES, and/ or portraits are the correct ones. See the cases of a change on portrait, mid year, and the two different ones will show the truth.

This 79 penny's got it all: MDD doubling of legend, clash, deterioration, what else? Ah yes, some rotation as well.

Marc, NOW you see what we have been enjoying for so long! As you pointed out in the photo, the same remnants of the clash are theremand shows the general arrea to look for clashes NO ANY COIN. They may be visible on the OBV, or the REV or even on both faces. he Canadans do not use MM's on their coinage, so it is not a factor in the varieties area, but it certainly will dispell any doubts as to whether it is the same die that made the coin, when two different portraits, or other changes were brought about duting the course of the year, in question.
