Just curious. What would cause these marks? And was the die just rattling around when this was struck? It seems that all the devices are mushed down.Or is it all PMD?

I see nothing but circulation wear.

It may have been polished at one time. Note how the reverse devices are rounded over as well. PSD

Reminds me of scribe markings. Similarly found on hobo nickels.

Present on Lincoln's back side and changes direction the higher it goes. Also on the chest and under the nose makes me think purposely done. Thanks, Doug.

What seems odd to Me was the "scribe" lines are only on the bust. They go all the way down too the fields, but, not a scratch or nick on the fields themselves. And the lettering looks like MD.That's what got Me wondering.

Reverse appears uneven and much more "worn" than obverse, which may somehow be related.
